A Bibliometric Analysis of Research into Hygiene and Artificial Intelligence in the Web of Science (1996–2024)

Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of academic publications addressing the concepts of "hygiene" and "artificial intelligence" in the Web of Science database between 1996 and 2024. The study examined the distribution of publications by year, publication types, author productivity, journal and institutional contributions, publication distribution by country, collaboration networks, and keyword relationships. The findings indicate a significant increase in the number of publications, particularly after 2019, and that this increases accelerated AI-based hygiene and public health research in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis revealed that the studies were mostly concentrated on disciplines such as medicine, public health, computer science, and engineering, and were also published in high-impact journals such as Frontiers in Public Health, IEEE Access, and the Journal of Medical Internet Research. The most productive authors were Song T.J., Park J.H., and Huang Z. with the most contributions by country coming from the United States, the United Kingdom, China, and South Korea, respectively. According to the keyword analysis, the concepts of "artificial intelligence," "machine learning," "deep learning," and "oral hygiene" emerged prominently. Overall, the findings reveal that scientific production in the fields of hygiene and artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly interdisciplinary, application-oriented, and globally widespread.
